The anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) will descend on the Ministry of Defence asking for a progress report on the investigation into the alleged dodging of military conscription by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, UDD leader Nattawut Saikua said Monday.
Bangkok, the 1st of February 2010 [TNA]: The UDD is scheduled to protest from noon to 5pm, and plan to submit a letter to ask about progress in the case and will also ask about a rumour on a coup. In another development, they also plan rallies at military units nationwide on Thursday to read the anti-coup statement while UDD in the capital are hosting a TV programme to monitor the Red Shirts movement on the PTV satellite channel.
Speaking about the death threats against judges, National Anti-Corruption Commission members and ex-members of the now-defunct Assets Examination Committee warned by controversial army officer Maj-Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol, also known as ‘Seh Deang’, Mr Nuttawut said he had no comment as he knew nothing about it.
It’s individual issue of Gen Khattiya and is not related to the Red Shirts, Mr Nuttawut said. “The Red Shirts intend to hurt no one. It is not useful to democracy. If there is anything happen, do not blame us.”
Meanwhile, it was reported that bags of excrement and fermented fish were thrown into the grounds of the premier’s home in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit area on Monday. Mr Abhisit said after being informed of the incident that he unworried and will instruct security personnel to step up security measures. “I and my family have not been shaken by the incident,” said the prime minister. “I have confronted more violence than this (before). I can still sleep well.”
The premier said security personnel are investigating who threw the assorted “things” into his house at midday and will inspect security camera footage installed in the house to identify the culprit. “Incidents will happen,” he said. “It’s the responsibility of security to tighten their measures (to protect) key figures as well as important places.”
